The Prelude Awards are a dynamic and comprehensive program about learning in and through the arts that celebrates, recognizes and supports creative expression and artistic excellence of high school youth throughout Marion County. The Awards, a partnership between The Penrod Society and The Children's Museum, are handed out annually to students of the arts in Marion County.

The Competition

The Prelude Awards are designed to provide exceptional learning experiences that help young people to develop competencies in the following areas:

- Communication
- Creative Expression
- Critical Thinking and Learning
- Leadership
- Multicultural Awareness and Appreciation
- Resource Development
- Team Building
- Technical Ability

Competitions will be held for individual participants in the categories of creative writing, dance, instrumental music, theater, video/film, visual arts and vocal music. A new interdisciplinary/group performance competition, titled Collaboration, is being introduced this year to recognize the outstanding achievements of performing arts groups of up to eight participants.
